About the PURPLE PATH
The PURPLE PATH art and sculpture trail is one of the major long-term projects of ↗ Chemnitz 2025, European Capital of Culture. Based on the narrative ‘Everything comes from the mountain’, contemporary art brings people in Chemnitz and the communities of the Ore Mountains, Central Saxony and the Zwickau region together.
New art is on display in unusual locations on disused mining and industrial sites, at railway stations, on streets and paths, and by bodies of water. It stands alongside late Gothic and Baroque art in magnificent castles and churches in historic mining regions. It also comes face to face with traditional crafts made from wood, textiles and other materials in the region’s numerous and diverse museums.
Contemporary artworks by regional, national and international artists are presented against the backdrop of a centuries-old and ongoing development of mining, craftsmanship and industry, set within one of the oldest cultural landscapes in Central Europe.
Who is responsible for the PURPLE PATH?
Chemnitz 2025 European Capital of Culture gGmbH owns almost all of the artworks currently on display along the PURPLE PATH. The local authorities in which the artworks are located are responsible, amongst other things, for their upkeep. With regard to marketing, Kulturhauptstadt Europas Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH, as the brand owner, works very closely with the region’s tourism organisations and the Free State of Saxony in particular.
Brand and logo
Chemnitz 2025 European Capital of Culture gGmbH is the owner of the registered trade mark “PURPLE PATH”. Both the name and the official logo are protected by trade mark law. Anyone wishing to use the term ‘PURPLE PATH’ or the official logo must obtain prior approval from Kulturhauptstadt Europas Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH. If you would like to express your enthusiasm for the PURPLE PATH, you may use the ‘I love PURPLE PATH’ logo free of charge.
